The MEN syndromes are a group of familial diseases associated with tumours and/or hyperplasia of various endocrine organs.

 

     

MEN I or Werner Syndrome:

The 3 P s:

Abnormalities of  Parathyroid ; Pancreas and Pituitary glands.

A) Parathyroid lesions : Hyperplasia and adenoma

B) Pancreatic lesions: Islet cell tumours

C) Pituitary lesions: Adenomas

MEN II / IIa or Sipple's Syndrome:

 

This condition is characterized by

A) Medullary Carcinoma of Thyroid and

B) Adrenal Pheochromocytoma.

MEN IIb or MEN III

 

Clinically similar to MEN II / IIa.

In addition to

A) Medullary Carcinoma of Thyroid and

B) Adrenal Pheochromocytoma there are

C) Neuromas and/or

D) Ganglioneuromas involving gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract, skin, oral mucosa and eyes.
