Plasma cells containing intracellular spherical inclusions of immunoglobulin (Russell bodies) are known as Mott cells (grape cells, morular cells).

Plasma cells the cytoplasm of which contain opaque bluish staining globular bodies varying in number and size are identical with the "grape cell".

These cells are noted both in reactive plasmacytosis, Burkitt's lymphoma, large B-cell lymphoma, lymphoplasmablastic lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and  conditions like Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome and von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis.

Mott cells are named after the surgeon F.W.Mott who identified these cell in 1905.

He noted these cells in the brain of monkeys in trypanosomiasis. William Russell first described these cells in 1890.

The inclusions of Mott cells represent immunoglobulin within vesicular structures derived from dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum.
